During these difficult economic times NJIT understands the need for our adult learners to get as much financial support as possible especially since typically your busy life permits only part-time study. We believe some of the links and information found below will help you to get started. Check out our tuition calculator and our gas savings (for distance learners) calculator below, where you can find out right away what your tuition costs will be and also figure out just how much in driving costs you will save, if you decide to study online.
The NJIT Financial Aid office provides information about private loans. Additionally, they also provide more information about graduate and undergraduate financial aid packages for traditional students. But as adults and typically part-time both undergraduate and graduate level learners, your needs may be different.
Financial aid programs of special note for part-time adults students are the Lifelong Learning Accounts, The HOPE Scholarship Tax Credit, Montgomery GI Bill, and New Post 9/11 GI Bill. Some of these benefits involve US income tax credits; others, tax deductions including up to $4,000 depending on your income. If your income exceeds your qualifying for the Lifelong Learning or Hope Scholarship check out the Limited Deduction/ Torricelli Deduction. We hope by pointing these sources out to you, not only won't they be a surprise (however pleasant) at April tax time, but they can help strengthen your resolve now to return to or continue your education.
If you’re interested in going back to school and receiving unemployed benefits, contact your state US Department of Labor to find about 599 Training Programs where recipients receiving unemployment benefits may qualify to have their benefits extended while attending a training course/program in a career related, high demand profession.
Another new possible source for funding is GradeFund, which is a private web-based initiative. Please note that this source has not been reviewed or endorsed by NJIT.
Additionally there other sources for funding which are private web-based initiatives. GradeFund helps others support your education based on the grades you achieve. GreenNote, helps students obtain loans for education via social networking rather than through traditional lending methods and CollegeDegreeFund.com helps students and graduates with debt find individuals and corporate sponsors to sponsor them. Please note that these sources have not been reviewed or endorsed by NJIT.
