Weekend University, NJIT’s program for professional advancement, is a flexible academic program designed for working adults that offers an opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology.

What Will I Learn?

  • Introduction to Information Technology offers an overview of emerging information technologies and the principles behind these developments.
  • Introduction to Network Technology introduces the basics of networking in a modern operating system environment. Emphasis is placed on the application and management of networking technology.
  • Information Design Techniques presents an introduction to the theory and practice of information design.
  • Internet Applications covers Internet programming and applications. A variety of software technologies are used to illustrate important concepts in Information Technology, from the client-server paradigm to text-based protocols like HTTP. 
  • Wireless Networks Technology introduces the students to the applied topic of Wireless Networks, focusing on applied methods, tools and technologies, as well as practical experience in designing & implementing wireless networks.
  • Computer & Network Systems Security introduces the applied topic of Computer Security, presenting the evolution of computer security, the main threats, attacks & mechanisms, applied computer operations & security protocols, main data transmission & storage protection methods via cryptography, ways of identifying, understanding & recovery from attacks against computer systems, various methods of security breach prevention, network systems availability, applications security, recovery & business continuation procedures and counter systems penetrations techniques and the role of the US Government in security of national computer infrastructure.
  • Computer Forensic introduces students to the applied topic of Computer Forensic, the study of obtaining and analyzing digital information from computers that have been used to commit illegal actions (computer crime), for use as evidence in civil, criminal, or administrative cases.
  • Ethical Hacking explores the various means that an intruder has available to gain access to computer resources. The course investigates weaknesses by discussing the theoretical background behind, and then performing known attacks then hardening the system to the attack and repeating the procedure.

Why study Information Security through Weekend University?

Weekend University gives you options. All classes are only one-and-a-half hours long each week and are held on Friday nights and/or Saturdays.  The remainder of the class is online.  This flexible method of study will allow you take other courses –- online or at Newark.  Either way, you’ll have access to the same outstanding facilities and professors as full-time NJIT students, plus benefit from the flexibility you need to juggle your life.

Prerequisites

Eligibility for admission requires completion of a High School diploma or equivalency, 24 years of age or older, and some experience in information technology.
