Who accredits NJIT?

The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSACS) Commission on Higher Education accredits NJIT. All of NJIT's eligible professional programs, both graduate and undergraduate, are accredited by the respective accrediting agency for their field:

  • CSAC/CSAB Computer Science Accreditation Commission of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board
  • EAC of ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology

What is Weekend University?

NJIT Weekend University is designed for professionals seeking to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in select areas. It is a flexible academic program designed for working adults that offers an opportunity to earn an Academic Certificate which springboards entirely into the corresponding BS or MS degree program.

I have been out of school for years. I am thinking about returning, but I am overwhelmed on where to begin. What should I do? Whom should I speak with? What would be the first steps to take?

I am gathering information on possibly returning to school. What specific benefits would there be to enrolling at NJIT?

NJIT is New Jersey’s Science and Technology University. As such NJIT has innovative and flexible programs to meet your educational goals as well as ongoing support for professionals who have been out of school for some time. NJIT offers a variety of ways to study – in a traditional classroom, online with instructor-led discussions, hybrid (online and traditional class meetings) and Weekend University which accelerates degree completion with Friday night and Saturday hybrid classes. NJIT offers single classes, Bachelor degrees, Master degrees and Graduate Certificates in ‘hot topic areas’. “Hot topic” undergraduate certificates are only available through Weekend University. As a public research university (one of only 3 in NJ), NJIT’s tuition is affordable especially for state residents.

Does Continuing Professional Education (CPE) only help students who already have a Bachelor’s Degree?

No, CPE helps all non-traditional students reach their educational goals with online study, attendance at classes throughout New Jersey at extension sites, through taking one or two classes on a non-matriculated basis, and with Professional Development noncredit course offerings.

Our programs are designed for all levels of students ranging from Professional Development to Bachelors to Graduate Certificates and Master Degrees.

NJIT has a Weekend University program which enables students to earn an Academic Certificate with just Friday night and Saturday study.

Are different classes offered every semester?

Yes, course schedules change each semester. To view the current course schedule, please visit: http://adultlearner.njit.edu/current.

How soon can I register for the next semester?

You need to apply first and create an account -- which is easy to do -- then you can register at the next available date. Classes start in September, January, and May. To check registration, you can use the Highlander Pipeline or the Registrar’s Office website:  www.njit.edu/registrar.

Will NJIT automatically notify me when the new course schedule is available? Or, will it be available after a certain date each semester?

Yes, you will receive an email from your department regarding registration. Updates are posted in the Highlander Pipeline and at the Registrar’s office website:  www.njit.edu/registrar.

Are GREs or GMATs required to enroll in a certificate program?

No, you do not need the GREs or GMATs for admission into an Academic Certificate program. Also many Master’s degrees do not require GRE scores.
