As a field, information systems is broadly concerned with the effective use and integration of computing technologies into human endeavors—that is, with human-centered computing. There is a growing body of knowledge on the relationships between people and computers that is independent of any specific application. Understanding the total system involves studying both the human and the computing environment as an integrated whole.
As an information systems professional, you’ll use the theory, analysis, design, implementation, application, and evaluation of computerized information systems to support users' needs. And your work will cover all aspects of the software development life-cycle—from requirements analysis, system development, and design, to testing, evaluation, and the deployment of the ultimate computer-based application.
Thanks to the dramatic use of computers and the Internet in problem solving and support of human cognitive processes, modern enterprises are extremely dependent upon information systems specialists. Not only that, but an NJIT education will prepare you to take on a position of responsibility and leadership in the field.
Through CPE, you can pursue a B.A./B.S. in Information Systems, M.S. in Information Systems, or several graduate certificates through online classes, at extension sites, and at NJIT's Newark campus.
